Young Hut is positioned at Mt Jim on the
Bogong High Plains. It was built in 1923 by the SEC and is also known as
Young Top Hut or the SEC Survey Hut. The original
Young hut was built nearby at the old yards uphill from the new site. The site elevation is 1640m. A composting
toilet has been constructed nearby.
The hut is fabricated in a similar fashion to Kellys Hut. The walls are weatherboard with a corrugated iron roof and
chimney. A small verandah graces the front of the building.
The hut is currently under the care of the Border Bushwalking Club.
The easiest approach to
the hut is to take the Australian Alpine Walking Track from the Mt
Loch carpark. At the
Young Top
Track intersection, turn right on
Young Top Track and follow it to
the hut.
The hut lies on the left hand side of the track.
