To the south of
Burketown is the
Burketown Bore. Located on the Nardoo
Burketown Road (Floraville Road), is the 100-year-old artesian
bore. Drilled in 1897 to a depth of 723 metres, the artesian
bore flows, creating a permanent water source attracting abundant wildlife. Over the years minerals have built up around the
bore colouring the surrounding earth. The wetlands which have formed around the
bore have also been coloured by the minerals.
In the early morning and late afternoon, it becomes the perfect place to spot wildlife, especially birds and Agile Wallabies. The water runs at approximately 68 degrees so if you are a keen photographer, you can get some great misty morning shots in the cooler months and make sure you get a glimpse of the

The
Burketown Bore was drilled by the State Government and completed in December, 1897. The original records state that the depth of the
bore was 2,304 feet and it had a flow rate of 155,560 gallons per day .
