Winda Woppa Reserve is the isthmus of land between Jimmy's Beach and the Myall River and includes both Winda Woppa Beach and the lakeside running along The
Anchorage beside Myall River. It continues down to the mouth of the Lower Myall River where it meets the Karuah River and Corrie Island. There are several nice walks around the area with good variation in scenery. You can walk along
the beach, with
views that look across the water to Port Stephens and Tomaree Point but even The
Anchorage walk, which is largely along the roadside, is an interesting walk. It follows the river banks, mangroves and wetlands, finishing at Winda Woppa
picnic area. It’s away from the main beach and shops of Hawks Nest so is a little bit less crowded in summer. Several sheltered picnic tables and BBQs overlook the river and there’s plenty of
open space for a game of cricket, frisbees and for kids to generally burn off energy. The playground here is colourful, with mostly climbing equipment. There’s a small climbing wall, a netted climbing section and a blue tunnel-like slide. In terms of facilities,
parking is easy and there is a
toilet block at the park. One of the park’s quirky features is an installation called Pioneer Poles. A set of 3 totem-like poles stands at the water’s edge and are painted to represent the McRae family, pioneer settlers who came to the area in the 1860s and helped build the fledgling timber industry.A
boat ramp is located along the lake opposite Fishermans Walk.
