Pine Tank
Water storage was essential for the occupation and development of the Mallee.
Pine tank was constructed in the 1870's to hold water for the distribution to stock. The tank was constructed from two concentric rings of cypress pine posts embedded in the ground.
The space between the two rings was originally filled with earth that may have been compacted by horse.
Water was pumped from the adjacent ground tank into the pine tank, before being gravity feed to a nearby trough. Originally the water was pumped by a steam engine, which was later replaced by windmill.
Maintenance works were carried out in 1995, to replace existing logs that had decayed. They unearthed a possible floor to the tank. Small pieces of flat
limestone or "flagstone" were laid down in a jigsaw patter across the floor. Soil appears to have eroded from in between the two rings and covered the floor.
