Mt Zeil Wilderness Park offers delightful
bush camping on the edge of a cattle station. They also run a convenience store, and provide flushing
toilets and hot showers in their main ablutions block, and will offer campers chopped firewood. Water is available at the main entrance alongside the ablutions block and there are
bins and patchy internet service.
Mt Zeil is the tallest mountain west of the Great Dividing Range and is also the highest peak in the Northern Territory. To hike to
the summit of Mt Zeil is a challenge that only experienced hikers should attempt. The Wilderness Park offers an alternative route from a
gorge to reach the ridge where you follow to
the summit. It is a very extreme climb and navigation is unclear so prior planning must be done. Use of an app such as
ExplorOz Traveller on your phone with offline topographic maps is recommended. There are no trail markers and there is no defined path to follow so GPS navigation is critical for a successful climb. The park does not provide maps or hiking information.
