Barryrenie is located some 24 Km west of Cowra. The locality was named by my grandfather in the early 1900's when he bought a
farm in the area. The name is a combination of two words, Barry - the village close to where he grew up (south of
Blayney, NSW) and Renie (Irene) his
young sister who he idolised. It is a pretty valley with very high high hills on the western side and is adjacent to the
Conimbla National Park. As a child I attended the Canimbla School which is to the east of Barryrenie and it is interesting to note the change of spelling between the locality of the one teacher school and the current national park. Ron Burke.
