This is the western extremity of the Milmed swap, a woodland that sits as another ecological system amongst the dandy wastes of the
Big Desert. The
woodlands provide a marked change from the surrounding desert with white clay flats and low red dunes and loam. Trees are predominantly larger Mallee eucalypt varieties, Blackbox and Scrubby Cyprus Pine.
The track runs roughly SW-NE for 1.5 kilometers across the woodland. The 'swamp' extends 2.2 kilometers north-south and is a natural drainage area for the surrounding dune country. There are numerous tgracks throughout the area which circle it or which lead to
camp areas and pans.
The area was the site of an outstation with a
dam and remnants of a hut (unlocated on this visit).
This
western boundary of the woodland zone is marked with a sign.
