Lake Nuga Nuga campground lies in the Qld National Park of the same name. Access to the park is via the Dawson Hwy, turning off onto the sealed
Arcadia Valley Road about 30km southeast of
Rolleston. The last 15km to the park are on an unsealed natural surface track that would be impassable or closed when wet. There are numerous
camp sites along the shoreline and on the peninsular, accessed by both maintained and unmaintained natural surface tracks. Access by 4WD vehicles is recommended. It is accessible for off-road camper trailers, off-road caravans and off-road motorhomes during dry weather.
The area is remote and all campsites are primitive with no facilities. BYO everything. Some are close to the waterline, others set some distance back.
Lake Nuga Nuga is a bird watchers paradise with over 150 species recorded, along with other wildlife attracted to the area by the abundant water. Large numbers of birds such as pelicans, black swans, magpie geese,
brolgas and
grey teal and many others use the lake.
Lake Nuga Nuga is a great place for photography especially when the lillies are flowering.
The lake is dotted with dead trees and stumps and the shores lightly forested with eucalypts and, closer to the water, stands of she-oak.
You must book and pay for a camping permit before you arrive at a
camping area. Open fires are allowed (except when fire bans or prohibitions apply). Bring your own clean-milled firewood.
