Durack River, Gibb River Rd - WA

This river crossing is at the bottom of a steep hill so the water level during the monsoonal wet season will be high - up to several metres deep and will cut access along the Gibb River Road. It will hold water well into the dry season, but by May is usually low enough for a high clearance 4WD to cross. Some nice campsites alongside the tree-lined river bank on the lower side, but outside the dry season these should be avoided due to the risk of flash flooding.
The crossing is only 5 km SW of the centreline of the total solar eclipse on July 22nd 2028. Duration is 5 min 8.7 sec. Ellenbrae station is only 12km to the west with its tasty scones.
