Traditional art is very strong the Arnhem Land Aboriginal Communities. Unlike painted art from the Centre that is done on canvas, all traditional art in the area is still painted the way it has been done for thousands of years...on bark cut from specially selected local eucalyptus trees.
In this area, there are a number of trees that have had the bark cut from the trees, which is then heated over a fire and slowly flattened out to form a plat surface for traditional painting.
