Free camp on Lake Cadibarrawirracanna which is a
salt lake located in the Far North region of South Australia. The 60-square-kilometre (23 sq mile) lake is located in the northeastern portion of the
Woomera Prohibited Area, east of the Stuart Highway. The nearest settlement is
Coober Pedy.
Lake Cadibarrawirracanna, meaning stars dancing on water, is the second longest official place name in Australia.
In the past you were able to drive right out to the actual lake, but now access is restricted to the arm section, and when full of water, is still a great place to visit. There are no facilities.
A permit is not required for this part of the
Woomera Prohibited Area as long as you don't leave the authorised route.
Check by phone for daily information about any access restrictions.
