Situated in the locality of
Lake Harris, gold was first noted here by the Government Geologist in 1894, after he had inspected the region late in 1893.
In 1904 a five-stamp battery had been built on the shore of
Lake Harris, worked by a 14 horse-power engine, with a vertical boiler.
The site has a
locked gate with a (new) sign that trespassers will be prosecuted and clearly does not welcome sightseers. Mining nearby has intermittently been happening over recent years. There is an old very deep
mine-shaft outside of the
locked gate just off the road nearby that is not in use.
