Waldana
Well (Waldana Spring) was shown to explorer Richard Maurice by natives on his expedition to the
Rawlinson Range in 1901. The
well was rediscovered by Len Beadell when he was surveying the new road from
Voakes Hill Corner south to
Cook between September and November 1961, and putting a
plaque at the site on the 27th September.
In 1962 when the National Mapping Authority were doing a major outback road survey, they timbered up the
well and today, you can still see the wording that they made on one of the timbers. The
well provided much needed water for the national mapping survey parties conducting works in the area across the 1960's.
