The state battery was erected in 1898. The private company involved then immediately went into liquidation, leaving its employees unpaid. The usual complaints from prospectors about mismanagement and gold being lost was levelled at the battery, but this was not unusual on prospector fields. The battery sands were processed in 1941 by J.A. Cocher, 810 tonnes for only 64 ounces of gold. The

Davyhurst-
Mulline Road.
