Milady was a B-24J-15-CO, S/n 42-73134, a Liberator Bomber, manufactured at the Consolidated Factory in San Diego September 3rd 1943. at a cost of $241,924.00. It's first flight was on 14th September 1943 and was delivered to the USAAF on the 16th September 1943. It arrived at
Townsville on 3rd of November 1943. it was then assigned to the 531 Squadron, 380th Bomb Group . and was stationed at Long Airfield near Hayes Creek, NT, first mission was to Selaru, Utoram. Milady carried out 56 missions until the Crash on 17th September 1945 with the loss of 6 crew killed, it was on a practice bombing mission at the time. Access to the
crash site is via Charles Point Rd , Cox Peninsula, NT , the turn off is at S12 26 31.9 E130 42 06.7 (use
ExplorOz Traveller app to follow markers).
At the site you'll find wreckage of the aircraft plus a
plaque and interpretive signage.
