Stockton Beach Holiday Park is a Top Tourist Park (member discounts apply) on the
Stockton Beach shoreline. This one of the friendliest Caravan Parks I have stayed in, opting for an unpowered tent site (suitable for Camper Trailers), which was close to all facilities, and next to
beach access.
Stockton Beach is unbelievably beautiful, and relatively safe for all ages, protected by a popular sea wall named "Shipwreck Walk". Talk the Walk for a bit of history of ships coming to grief trying to enter the Hunter River.
The CP is relatively close to a variety of shops,
services and eateries. To see
Newcastle, hop on to the $2.60 (each way) Ferry, which provides a regular service from
Stockton and return. Tour the eateries and shops; take a hike to Fort Scratchley for an informative tour, including the two 6" guns which exchanged fire with a Japanese submarine in 1942. Be there for the firing of an old canon at 1:00pm EDST, traditionally used for Ship Masters to synchronise their time pieces. For the energetic, walk up a relatively steep street to the historic Christ Church Anglical Cathedral built in 1817.
