Edition 408: 12th November 2015

Hi ExplorOz Reader,

This week we've been working on a surprise for you just in time for Christmas and the start of the new year! We're producing an ExplorOz Calendar that will soon be available in the ExplorOz Shop. This is a spiral bound A3 size wall calendar featuring beautiful photographs of the Australian outback contributed by the ExplorOz community of talented amateur photographers. The calendar just went into the first stage of production a few hours ago so we expect stock to arrive towards the end of November or early December but we will start taking orders from this week. At the time of publishing this newsletter, the calendar was not yet up for sale in our shop but this will be ready by tomorrow (Friday) so be sure to get your orders in quick before they sell out. Hurry, you do not want to miss this opportunity to get the limited edition 2016 ExplorOz Calendar.

Staged at the famous Big Red sand dune on the eastern edge of the Simpson Desert 35km outside of Birdsville in Queensland, the Bash promises an experience of a lifetime for anyone seeking a unique Australian outback adventure. Vehicle tracking, and emergency communications are two big issues that all ExplorOz travellers need to take seriously, especially when heading off into remote areas where mobile phone services are not reliable. Australia still has many black holes where your mobile phone will not work and planning for the worst is your best defence against peril during a breakdown or personal crisis in the bush.

We have a number of good Communications Articles which are highly recommended reading. Plus we've just put together a Buyer's Guide here, which includes the range of inReach, SPOT, PLB, and Tracking products.

Have you visited Tasmania yet? Did you know that more than 25% of the island is protected by National Parks and reserves and many of the State Forests provide excellent 4WD routes and free bush camping opportunities abound throughout the state. This week we've prepared a small travel feature to help you find your way around all the Tassie info and resources on ExplorOz. Take a look here.
