New Site Features

David has been busy this week rolling out a range of new site improvements, with a bit of something for everyone to enjoy:
  • Forum Image Uploads - previously, only Members could directly upload an image from their computer with non-Members needing to add an embed link to their image located on an external website. Now - all Members and Visitors have the same options for uploading photos to the Forum.
  • Mobile Site Forum Images - previously, if using the Forum on our Mobile Site we could not offer you the ability to upload images but that has now been added.
  • Add Images to User Treks - if your photos are geocoded (ie. GPS location stored in the image) then you can now add these to your User Treks/Saved EOTrackMe files and an icon will appear on your Trek map at the position where the photo was taken. Click the icon to view the photo and a description. Don't forget to embed your User Treks into your Blogs - and now people can see exactly where the photos were taken.
  • Image Tagging to Lat/Long Coordinates - when adding photos to ExplorOz you are prompted to type a title, description and create a tag to a Place Name which will match it to our Places database. We've now just added another option that allows you to tag to a position coordinate - just add the lat/long in the boxes provided.
  • Places Map Upgrade - the map now shows all 85,000 POIs in our Places database as active icons on the map at the same time, which allow you to click to open a small pop-up to obtain the Place Name, Place Type Attribute, and link to open (right click on mouse for options). The map viewing tools have been relocated to de-clutter the screen. Find the layer switch tool in the top RH corner. The lat/long of a positon on the map will be displayed in the top RH corner as you move your mouse over the map. NOTE: This is a work in progress with My Plans and some other tools currently disabled. These will be added in the coming weeks so we ask for your patience until the development roll-out is complete.

Spotlight on the Coral Coast

Our Destination Spotlight for this week looks at the Coral Coast region. The Coral Coast is the stretch of Western Australia's Coastline, extending from Jurien Bay through to Exmouth, and includes remote station access to some stunning remote coastal secrets away from the mainstream.

Take this link to our feature blog with links to Trek Notes for this region and a handy list of relevant maps, DVDs, and guidebooks.

Posting Images in the Forum

We offer you two options for uploading photos in the Forum.

  1. The image can be stored on your computer, where it is uploaded to the ExplorOz server OR
  2. The image can be stored on another website (eg. Photobucket) so you provide a link to that location (URL) for our server to embed the image in the page. *Up until this week this has been the only option for non-Members.
To insert an image to a Forum Post always use the Add Image button and select the upload option that suits your needs.
