Edition 175: 19th February 2009

Hi ExplorOz Reader,

There is no denying that ExplorOz® is full of interactive changes occurring on the site daily. With over 1500 site users active at any time ExplorOz.com is very dynamic with updates in all segments of the site. There are numerous ways that people can add something of their own to the site and this means there's lots of pages where you will find something enjoyable, informative or even debatable! We also offer a number of RSS feeds for these if you wish to stay up-to-the-minute.

The fortnight at a glance

In a time when the media reported news of the Victorian bushfires, and flooding in Queensland, Australians were connecting and sharing their grief on the Forum. But our service means that with the use of Member Messaging and Trips/Gatherings people on ExplorOz are able to go beyond the online experience and are actually meeting up and helping out.

In this newsletter we've got a goodnews story about a group of East Coast ExplorOz members who rallied together last weekend to help out an unsuspecting fellow member in need - you can read this story and see the photos in ExplorOz Backyard Blitz.

How many of you knew we had a Member with a personal commitment to post in the Forum every Sunday with "a history lesson"? If you haven't seen these previously, take a look at the latest - Sunday History Photo NT.

The plans for the 2010 National Gathering to be held in Wiluna WA were just released yesterday so don't miss out on the great opportunities to travel and meet new people - see Members Trips & Gatherings for details of all upcoming trips.

And those of you who noticed that Fuel Prices were not updating lately will be pleased to see that this service is up and running again with daily reports.

ExplorOz now has over 170 trek notes and we've added the route lines as another optional data layer in Places. When they are all displayed on the map of Australia inPlaces, you can really appreciate the extent of the coverage of this data!

To get this feature enabled on a map shown in Places, first make sure the ‘ExplorOz Trek Notes’ checkbox is selected (control box right hand corner), and then click on one of the trek routes (shown as a purple road line).

Who's New?

We’ve recently had a number of new Business Members joining and they deserve a mention. For further information on any of the businesses listed below you can click the links shown to view the profile pages that they have prepared on ExplorOz or search the Directory.

And finally, here's some useful details if you wish to support the victims of the Victorian bushfires or floods in Queensland. Contact the Red Cross on: 1800 811 700 or visit their website. To donate to the Queensland Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal Fund simply visit any of the major banks or phone: 1800 173 349.
