Description

Connie Sue Highway late April/early May, Anne Beadell Highway early/mid June 2014

We are looking for travellers (1-3 vehicles) to accompany us in April-June 2014 through WA/SA desert country. We’ll be leaving from Townsville, Qld in late April and after crossing the Plenty Highway plan to travel the Great Central Road/Connie Sue Highway from Yulara to Cocklebiddy via Docker River, Warburton, Neale Junction and Rawlinna. At this stage we expect to be in Alice Springs around 26 April, and will then head to Yulara for the start of the Connie Sue section of our travels a couple of days after that.

Then, after two weeks fishing near Esperance in WA, and two weeks in Perth visiting family, we expect to head to Kalgoorlie in early June and travel the Goldfields Highway/Anne Beadell Highway to Coober Pedy via Laverton, Neale Junction, Ilkurlka Roadhouse and Vokes Hill Corner. We expect to be ready to depart Laverton for the Anne Beadell section around 7 June.

Our return home to Townsville will take us down part of the Oodnadatta Track to Maree and then up the Birdsville Track back into Qld.

We are keen to have travel companions from Yulara (or nearby) to Cocklebiddy (GCR/CSH), and/or Laverton (or nearby) to Coober Pedy (GH/ABH). Possible rendezvous points for these sections are Alice Springs/Erldunda/Yulara and Perth/Kalgoorlie/Leonora.Laverton. This isn’t a tag-along trip, but a chance for campers who usually travel on their own to tackle some of the more challenging tracks of our awesome country safely. Therefore, we expect to share the lead vehicle responsibilities and are happy to plan the itinerary with compatible travellers within the limits of our long service leave date-range.

The capacity of carry fuel for ~800kms, and water/food for 8-10 days is necessary for the Anne Beadell Highway. The ExplorOz trek notes for ABH & CSH are an excellent source of preliminary information.

We are a husband and wife in our early 40’s-50’s who are experienced 4WD tourers and campers. Our vehicle is a well-maintained and modified 2003 Nissan Navara dual cab with off-road camper trailer (significantly modified 1999 Albany Camper) which allows us to be completely self-sufficient. We are non-smokers, social drinkers, and will be travelling with our well-behaved female kelpie dog. (Because we are taking our dog, our overnight stops will therefore be limited to non-national park areas.)

Couples or families with 1-2 kids (4+ years old) who are also experienced 4WDers/ tourers and self-sufficient, non-smoking campers are welcome to contact us for more information. We will also consider single parents whose kid/s are used to camping.

Our usual days while travelling off-road are 5-6 hours driving with morning smoko and lunch stops before setting up camp with time to enjoy late afternoon/evenings in bush settings, and we prefer to slow down if necessary to take the extra time to drive rough areas safely.

So, if you'd like to find out more about our upcoming trip to see if it's something that you're interested to join, please 'register as attending' so that we can make contact and share more infomation with you!

Kind Regards
Gary & Susan (& Kayla the kelpie)
