It's almost frightening to think how much things have changed. Fuel was an outrageous $1.00 per gallon (22c per litre) in the remote outback in the early to mid 70's. The bitumen north stopped at
Port Augusta. The Great Northern Hwy was a track. The Gunbarrel didn't have any corrugations (
well I may have made that up lol) UHT milk didn't exist (god I hated powdered milk) and petrol vehicles were largely the go.
