How to get your 4x4 out of an eroded gully in the absolute middle of nowhere! - The video (remixed)

In short...........with a lot of digging!

Having left the Rudall River NP in Western Australia, we had been following a tenuous route for about 70 kilometres beating in to the west along on an old shot line just south of Moses Chair. We diverged off this onto a long unused track from the survey and mining exploration days in the 70’s. It was largely overgrown and in a shallow valley where two low ranges met, the sandy soil had been eaten away over the proceeding years by the tumultuous rains that often drown these parts during the Pilbara wet season. We quickly found ourselves in a high sided washaway that was becoming more constricted as we moved foward. With the trailers behind, backing out was not an option. With the sun just setting, time was of the essence.

This short video compelation taken by Gaby (the Canadian Voice you can here exclaiming “HOLY CRAP” all the time) records our excape. Note the Cooper tyres, the Engel Fridge and the Toyota following the trail blazing Patrol (What a stirrer I am!).

Details and locations are in my blog dated 17th July 2008.

(Dec 09) - I've just edited the clips together with a bit of music and some slides. That night was blessed with a moon that only the western deserts and the Pilbara can deliver.
