Saturday 26th July (to Monday 29th July)
Alice Springs – McDonald Ranges Caravan Park (Again).
Up early and a shower before departure…wonderful. The front left tyre was up and down. First it would, then it wouldn’t hold air. It reached equilibrium eventually. We headed of at 7.45 a.m. Had to stop at
Erldunda and replace a plug in the damn thing. Next stop Stuarts
Well where Scott made a few phone calls to Canada and returned to find he’d got a flat on the drivers side rear. Time for the super glue and gaffer tape special! It went on the trailer and as Scott was now down to no spares also, it was a nervy final 100 km into the Alice which we reached at 11.50 a.m. in timer to watch everything close.
Bloody Luxury
Km art for some clothes (pants) and then down to the caravan park. Relaxing afternoon doing 5 loads of washing and the overalls twice! Few phone calls and then up to the memorial club for dinner and the cultural event of a footy club fundraiser raffle for Scott and Gaby.
Home for Baileys and then bed in CLEAN sheets!
The gaffer tape and Supaglue tyre!
The next couple of days were spent relaxing, shopping for food and grog and a few pairs of strides. Once Drew arrived we managed to reinforce the trailer once again with a MIG welder at the Local All Power dealer, known to Drew of course. We managed to replace and repair tyres. The Super glue and gaffer tape tyre did exceptionally
well but the tennis ball sized bulge in the sidewall was definitely unnerving. It went the way of all good tyres whose duty has been nobly done – Tyre-mart!
The bulge!
The McDonald Ranges Caravan Park didn’t disappoint once again and we each booked ensuite sites. A little bit of luxury. There was always time for 5:30 sippers in the late afternoons.
