Kununurra W.A.

It was a travel day today. We got packed up and headed out at a tad before 9.00 a.m. Not much to mention other than we headed east on the Gibb through the dust to the Northern Hwy. Here we celebrated the end of the Gibb River Road with the obligatory photos. The vehicle and trailer were looking decidedly worse for wear and dusty. We passed another motorist with axle issues on the way. Still don’t know what the problem is!

Kununurra was reached in good time and on arrival, we headed into town for a look see before deciding on a park. Actually, I think the decision concerning caravan parks had been long made due to information imparted over past days by fellow travellers. Kona by the lake it was going to be. I located the car wash and a doozy it was. Only one of the two bays working and no water escaping as the trap was full of mud. Felt like squelching ones way through a rice paddy as you washed the car. Got the trailer clean though and that was the main mission. We are so full of, covered by and sick of,….dust! Checked into the Kona Caravan Park and were rewarded by a large grassy site only 30 metres from the waters edge.John and Jules have opted for the water views and are lakeside.

I washed the outside of the vehicle in the afternoon then did a shopping trip to the local Coles. Dinner of Greek lamb and a salad, delicious it was too. An early nite spent reading my old journal from the Kimberley’s in 1985. It was this very park I stayed at then and back in 1973.

trip would doubtless be attended with much hardship.''
