TRIP DAY 19
Friday 23rd September, 2011
We awoke at about 7am and had our hotel included breakfast in the Comfort Inn at Henderson. When we finished packing the car and hit the road the time was 9am. Today was Death Valley via Pahrump and finish in Beatty.
We got through Vegas quickly using directions from the iPhone TomTom app. The roads do move
well mostly in the US. We arrived in Pahrump at 10 and visited the tourism office for DB info which confirmed our directions. We also decided to
check out this fireworks warehouse
shop (oh wow, you can buy anything in the US) some of the fireworks are like you see on the professional setups like canons.
We hit Death Valley at about 12 and we were presented with extreme heat up to 114 on the car gauge. What an interesting place. All I can say is hot hot, salt lakes and dynamic ranges of mountains.
We toured around half of the park, got the kids their junior
ranger booklets, had lunch and checked out the sites.
Had one minor drama as we were heading to Dantes Peak up a 15% grade the car temp gauge started to climb onto the oh no range! Needless to say we made it but it was a little scary thinking about having to stop to cool the car down in 110 degrees.
We then drove towards Beatty and our accommodation at Motel 6. On the way we got close to the infamous area 51.
Writing this we just returned to the hotel after dinner at the local casino (not like Vegas but still machines). We walked into the one of the largest lolly shops and had a great ice cream and bought some car snacks.
Bedtime now getting ready for another tour of DV and onto Mammoth Lakes for tomorrow night. Till next time.
