I've been thinking for a few days about how to overcome the lack of campfire to bake the cakes, puddings and scones I had come prepared to add to our menu to pad out the constant fare of fish. So whilst David was out fishing I mixed up a packet banana bread mix and popped it in my cake pan. I covered the cake pan with foil then placed it on a trivet in the
camp oven. I put a little water in the
camp oven to cover the base of the raised cake pan and then put another layer of foil over the top of the
camp oven before putting on the lid. I set it on the gas cooker on lowest setting to steam for the time indicated on the packet mix and ... Voila!! Success!! It works... So everyone is now happily tucking into some carbs 'cause we've totally run out of everything else except fish and tinned bits 'n bobs.
Steamed cake success!
