We have just completed a weekend trip to the wildflower distric. What a stunning scene with carpets of flowers. I attempted a trip 2 years ago even though there was very little rain and went to some of the same
places but saw nothing.
The first hint of
wildflowers was at
Miling (town block covered in them) and Dalwalinu (verge into town was covered) but the real wild flowers don't start until after
Wubin going up the central road. The golden triangle we covered was from
Wubin ,
Paynes Find, Perenjori. We didn't quite go all the way to
Paynes Find or to Perenjori as we cut across on the Thundelarra dirt road from the Great Northern Hwy and halfway took the Perenjori road to come out at Lucky crossing on the top of
Mongers Lake. Then down the
rabbit proof fence to stop at the Camel Soak (absolutely stunning) and onto Peter's 500 acre woods off Maya East rd (again just amazing) so a big thanks to Peter and Sue for offering ExplorOz members to take a peak.
The best displays we saw where at Jibberding
rest stop just north of
Wubin, random
places along the Hwy up to Ningham stn turn off, after we turned off the Thundelarra -
Yalgoo track and were on the Perenjori track. This was a bit rougher track but easy to take a two wheel drive vehicle. This track was amazing and very
well populated with flowers. We camped along here and were very careful to leave no trace of where we had been. Then the Camel soak at the topend of the
rabbit proof fence alongside
Mongers lake very near Lucky Crossing. And finally looking at Peter and Sue's block on Maya East rd.
