After much reading and exploring about
inverters, I've decided to purchase a True Sine Wave (TSW) inverter that will run from the Thumper battery and safely recharge my electronic equipment batteries. It's very clear to me that the Modified Sine Wave (MSW) may damage the batteries and more importantly, the recharging units in the long term. I must add that the info on ExplorOz has been really useful, both the article available and some
Forum posts from Members.
My choice is the Selectronic LD200-12 which is a TSW inverter. It's more expensive than some, but I'm satisfied it won't compromise my equipment or my safety. I have a great respect for electricity and it's worth a whole lot to rely on first class technology. I'm also happy to support local development and product.
I did purchase a low-cost inverter some years ago but have never actually used it as I had an inkling that it's not safe. After talking to a few experts, I have discovered that this unit has no Residual Current Device and could cause me grievance harm if not earthed properly.
