Would a kind soul please help by advising the polarity of the plug for a 60 litre Waeco.
If you are holding the fridge plug end and the two parallel female slots are facing you, which is positive? The left or the right? I have to fix
mine which unfortunately was broken and with both wires being plain black I have no idea which is which.

Have just checked our 40L (35L ?) Waeco for you and if you look at the plug (looking into it) with the alignment groove on your right the + is the top one.
That makes the + the bottom terminal on the fridge if you get my drift because you have to roll the plug over with its back to you to insert into the fridge

Just re read your post and to clarify...my plug looks like this ...with your right hand holding the cord // to the ground (across your body) and looking into the plug there are two terminals one above the other and to the right of them is the alignment groove

Hi Rosco,
Just use a multimeter, it will either read positve power or negative by swapping the test probes. Your red probe must be plugged into the + socket on the multimeter.

not sure how that is going to help him. His post states he has two black wires on the lead from power to fridge...the lead is chopped half........he is trying to find out which is the positive on the fridge.(no power connected)....the positive from the power source is the easy bit ...as you said a multi meter

This image is from our 39 litre Waeco. The red is the positive side. I wouldn't be too certain that it will relate to your fridge, but it's a good bet. Suggest check with a multimeter that the polarity is this way round before plugging into the fridge - AND, as already mentioned, make sure that the red meter lead is actually in the positive terminal on the meter!!!

WOW how confusing can you get.
Only one so far has provided a means of identifying the problem.
The Bottom pin in the fridge base is +ve, yes that is POSITIVE.
That wire can be then traced back to the Ciggy plug end and should go to the middle of the Ciggy plug even though the wire is cut at the moment.
Grab a piece of wire, hairpin/paper clip, and put it into the recessed end of the plug which connects to the that bottom pin. The correct wire from the other half when connected to that will cause a spark at the centre of the Ciggy plug when the two ends are touched briefly across a battery. Even a 6volt 509 battery will do or car battery, be careful there, vented area only.
Join up the other wire again cos it is the negative line. use solder if possible or a screwed connecter.
No meter needed but would be good to have and use if available.

If you want to improve the performance and reduce the overall battery draw of your Waeco then pull the compressor cover off of it and install an Anderson plug or similar high current connector in parallel with the 12v inlet (Please - only do this on the older 12V ones - not the 12 / 240v ones!!!!!). Then feed it with a decent cable such as 8GA. The voltage drop under full load across the horribly thin factory cable is about 0.75v on my CF60. No point wasting current heating up the cable. There are several fridge installs I have sorted out where the drop from battery at the front to fridge terminals at the rear is over 1.5v. A good fridge install will only drop 0.2v.
