Has anyone travelled Mulga Park Road from
Curtin Springs to
Kulgera? Apparently it was the original
Gunbarrel Highway section. Is this open to the public and (obviously depending on road conditions) is it a reasonable and worthwhile run?

Please ignore this request as I have found some year 2009 answers when I trawled thru this great ExplorOz site. Many thanks to all who viewed our request.

Hi Peter and Ann
The Mulga park Road is a great drive and there is a lot to stop and see along the way if you like that type of country. For me it is far more interesting than taking the bitumen and one time when we had lots of spare time, it took us 1 3/4 days to do the drive, which can be driven comfortable in around 5 - 6 hours when conditions are good.
There are better
views of Mt Connor from this road and couple of
good camp spots where you can have Mt Connor as your backdrop when the sun is setting.
As for your original questions, yes it is part of the original
Gunbarrel Highway, but only as far as the Mulga Park
Homestead, were the original road
swings away to your left into out of bounds Aboriginal Lands. The road is
well signposted a few kilometres north of the South Australian - Northern Territory Boarder.
Here are a few images of what there is in the way of scenery along the way.

Thanks, Stephen. Absolutely looking forward to driving this road now - even more so than before. Missed out on it in 2010.

Driven it many times.
First time in a Mini K in 1970.
This was in 1974, the year of the BIG wet.
Cheers,
Peter

Ouch! Looks like it took more than 5-6 hours to drive that season!
