anyone put an intercooler on a GQ 2.8td? If so a few questions :)
1. air or
water and why?
2. was it worth it? what gains did you 'feel' (torque etc)
3. would you do it again?
thanks,

Hi Gossy,
I have an RD28T GQ as
well, not intercooled though. You could search
http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/ as there would be loads of info there.

G'day Gossy
Although I do not own or operate a Nissan GQ 2.8td, I do own and operate a Toyota LandCruiser 4.2td.
It has a factory fitted Turbo charger and as such it was a reasonal performer, returning what you might call acceptable fuel range in its standard form, but over time I though the vehicle was lacking in power so I opted for an up grade(s).
One of the very first of the up grades was to have a Dyno tune done, then injectors and fuel pump overhauled and a final Dyno tune to prove the worth of the work done to injectors and fuel pump ~ the result were quite substantial.
Many months later I purchased a Denco
water to air intercooler kit and fitted it to the vehicle itwas a very straight forward fit ~ the result again impressive and noticable.
The last up grade in my quest for power was the fitting of a full 3 inch from the turbo ~ mandrel bend (bent) Taipan exhaust system, Dyno tune before and after fitting.
This Dyno tune showed an increase in torque from the previous result and the only change to this point was the Denco intercooler.
I can honestly say each up grade was worth while, but each up grade complemented the other.
Do I think it was worth it ~ YES.
Would I do it again ~ NO ~ there are newer better technology Toyota's on the market today, but un-affordable to me anyway.
Safe travels :

thanks guys. Yep, getting a dyno tune would be a good idea to know where I'm at currently.

Gossy, go for an exhaust upgrade first, then see how you go after that.

I've got a 2.5 inch exhaust but it's not mandrel bends. It definately did make a difference though.
