Hi, we are picking up a Jayco Swift early next year but need to make a decision on awnings.

We are new to "camping/caravaning" and didn't even know exactly what an awning was. Thanks to this site (and a bit of googling) I see this is different awnings you can get...bag awnings, fiamma, domestic etc.

I see bag awnings is poles and usually a 2 man job to put up. Fiamma has no poles (is that correct) and you wind this out? No idea what domestic is yet lol.

Anyway, what would people recommend for the Jayco Swift? Ideally we want something easy (so that rules the bag awning out). I believe bag awning is the one Jayco offers..do Jayco offer Fiamma as well? Ideally we'd like to buy the awning/annex from Jayco but we're prepared to go elsewhere (i.e. aussie traveller....but price will play a part as well).

Also, we definitely want a FULL annex (with all walls). Are Fiamma annexes ok? As mentioned above, do Jayco supply these or are we best to go to aussie traveller.

Anyway just after a bit of advice on this matter.

Thanks all!!!!Agent009

I think Dometic is not suitable for the Swift because it has long legs attached to the side of the van and the swift collapses too low.

We have an Eagle and recently replaced the bag awning with a Fiamma. I previously had a Fiamma awning on a horse float and loved how easy it was to set up. We have a tie down strap for windy weather but roll in it (takes 30 sec) if it's going to get too windy. I can't give any advice on a full annexe as we only have the awning.

Thanks Meredith!

We definitely require a full annex so I'm hoping (fingers crossed) that a Fiamma awning will be ok with a full annex as the Fiamma sounds like it suits us the best.

Also, we are ONLY planning on going to holiday parks and will have a concrete slab. I'm guessing the Fiamma wouldn't hang over the entire slab, therefore how would we "peg" the legs of the Fiamma into the ground?

Fiamma + Full annex is definitely what we're looking at so hopefully this combination will work..... :S

Awning for this only comes out about 2.5metres from the camper. With the length of the awning itself around the 2metre mark, having walls will make a square box. Will this be big enough for your needs?

Appeared a little small for my needs so i'm sticking with just the awning. Later I might put a front screen on, which from what I have seen angles out from the top. Not straight down.

I bought the Swift three weeks ago, and currently trying to work out the same thing.

Fiamma do a bag awning as well. Legs slide into the end pole for rolling purposes. Apparently there is a bracket you can attach to camper, so legs angle up from it for days you can't peg it down. Been measuring sizes.

So far minimum size I have found for the wind out awning is 2.5metres. Measuring mine, the camper is 2.6m. Not a lot spare.

The jayco factory currently has bag awnings for the Swift at 195.00. Customer needs to collect. Apparently these are old stock they are trying to clear. Also have walls for same price. Found on Ebay last night, and been talking to them today. You need to organise own pickup/freight.

Further down is a post I made about same thing. Have a look at the reply from the RV company that answered, and follow their link. They might be able to help as well.

Hi Shaun. I live in Adelaide and have a 2012 Jayco Swift. We initially wanted the Jayco bag awning and annexe (as well as bed flys) that were Jayco branded, but were strongly talked out of it by the Jayco salesperson and we are glad they did.

We ended up going with Adelaide Annexe and Canvas who Adelaide Jayco recommend and got bag awnings and bed flys. We are very very happy with them. The Jayco stuff is like "home brand" compared to the quality of AAC's stuff. We are getting the full annexe for our Swift from them early in the new year.

The bags are easy to set up and put away - one person could do it blindfolded, probably becuase the Swift is so small. I am not sure I could recommend the Fiamma as it does not stand up to strong winds well.

I hope this helps.....if it were me - definitely go for bag stuff....you will be glad you did.

Cheers, Paul (SA)

Thanks 453.

In that case we will probably stay away from the jayco awning + annex.

Still leaning towards fiamma as most people are saying this is easier and more convenient then bagged. What companies would people recommend in Brisbane area for awnings and annex? Obviously only looking at awnings and annexes that will suit the Jayco Swift.
