Kman1. any radio with the AM/FM bands will cover what you want, Just scan the AM band for the station in your area. Some rural areas you will find on the FM band as well.

Better look at a PL-600.
Much superior to the Elton

Thanks to Robyn Miller on this forum I found the Tecsun PL660 radio which has great reception and can receive AM FM SW and SSB inc the various HF clubs. It also receives the airband which is a great buzz if you want to listen to aircraft departures ad arrivals.

But I have to say the best thing for receiving AM is a Tecsun AN 200 loop antenna. It is a hoop about 300mm in diameter and 30mm wide and you simply put your radio in the middle of the loop and tune it. It has no batteries and is simply amazing. It is directional so it has to face the right direction too.

It really does work as well as depicted in this video.

In the middle of the day in the high country there are places where you get noting but static and noise, but with this thing you get full, strong signals like you are near the transmitter. I just get 828 AM from my hone in Melbourne but with this it is as clear as 774 Local Radio.

Even my friends $10 el cheapo radio got a great signal in the day. At night you can get long distances.

It was about $20 on Ebay and you wont believe it till you get it and try it.
