towing limit for 96 GQ patrol

Hi guys,
Does anyone know what the towing limit is for a 96 or similar nissan patrol 4.2 turbo diesel?
I'm wanting to tow a 1400kg race car and trailer and would like to know if the patrol is up to it.
Also does it matter if its short or long wheel base?
Cheers

Hi,
you should be quite within your vehicle's tow capacity with your racecar and trailer.
A shortwheel base is not as stable as a long wheelbase when towing as a general rule.

By brothers 98 gq td42 is rated at 2.5tonne towing capacity, with the factory tow bar.

I checked with him as I thought all gq's were 2.5 tonne. His was the last of the gq patrols.

Net seems to confirm 2.5tonne for the gq.

Provided you have the right tow bar it should be fine with the weight.

Only thing is they do heat up if worked hard, or the weight is near its limit.

do they heat up because their cooling system is not efficent?
or is it something else?

Cooling system not efficient. Something that the 4.2 in gq and gu is renowed for. My dad had one and also tried a much larger hi performance radiator, with no joy. Removed spottie's with no joy. Some on my brothers. It's apparently due to the water jackets in the engine not being large enough. Dad had his drilled out by a mob in Sydney. Not cheap as it was speciliased equipment, but once done, nothing would cause to to heat up. She ran at 83-85 degrees all the time.

BW is correct, not much you can do about it , i'm towing a 2.5 t roadstar with mine , just have to moniter it and drive to conditions, solid running gear tho , except for the weak 5th gear issue in some models, others tow with later model 4.2s turbo, with no probs..!

sorry duck 3500kg is wrong..models from 1988-1997 are 750kg without trailer brakes and 2500kg with trailer brakes the towbar rating sticker might say more depending where it came from but the manufactures specs are what you legally have to go by
