About to arrive Melbourne, need Cara Park whilst awaiting Tassie Ferry. Any suggestions, within an hour of terminal.

Hi Pepdenmark

Ashley Gardens in Braybrook is ideal, and ferry traffic is their main trade. Just follow the cavalcade of caravans from the park all the way onto the ferry. See our review Going to Tasmania

Hi Pipdenmark

Apologies for the typo on name above - just saw it this morning.

Enjoy your trip to the beautiful island state.

Tell them you are going on the ferry when you book and they have special sections for ferry travellers. ie drive though sites so that there is no hooking up in the early hours.

Book early as there are not that many of them. It is a nice park as well.

We are there now waiting for tonights crossing. Musn't be many going. We are the only van in the storage area. There were a few vacant drive thu sites last night.
BTW some big event at Station Pier today so parking in area will probably be an issue. S of T sent us a text last night with advice
C U over there.

Now at Gowrie Park, Tas. We were the only van from Ashley Gardens but used the GPS to find our way to the Spirit. It was busy but traffic OK. Quite a wait to board. The crossing was smooth and quarantine took about half an hour.

Hi Rod, please to hear you had a good crossing. We had a very smooth (day) crossing on the way over, and a rock and roll night on the way back come April, but no problems. I take it Gowrie Park is still free and as it was before? The CP owners who caused to fuss and were going to manage it were awaiting the result of the Enquiry before that was a goer or not, and i haven't heard back from them so presume all is still OK.

There still is a free one at Gowrie Park but we chose to stay at the paid one, Gowrie Park Widerness Villiage, until we sort ourselves out. It has had work done on it with new shower block etc. A local vanner here said the "discussions" re the free camp were still on going.

Another thing I would advise newcomers to do is to arrive a day early. You can then drive the route at a similar time to your departure or a bit earlier. Park somewhere around in the back streets and walk to the terminal. Go in where the walk-on passengers do. You can then go up to an observation deck and watch the proceedings.

Thanks for your input, most helpful.
We got a spot at Werribee South Cara Park, they have been superb, even have pre-printed maps to ferry (2 routes, 1 for larger Vans - no roundabouts, and a shorter one for others). Very useful for out of town, country guys!
