As far as I am aware the only dirt section is from Borroloola over to Queensland somewhere! Drove it 2 years ago and I had about 30 variety bash 2 wheel drive older cars pass. It is not an adventurous road if tackled sensibly. Late June onwards...piece of cake
cheers

plenty of dirt on the Savanah Way as it runs for about 3500 klms i believe, we drove some of it last year. the section North from Lawn Hill Creek is a pretty drive, also enjoyed the section out of Booroloola to Roper Bar aswell. would be nice to get to do the whole route one day though.

I think you have forgotten about the bit from Borroloola through Roper Bar to Mataranka. It's not as easy going as as the bit you mentioned.

i guess it depends on what time of the year you do the drive, and what your towing. it was an easy drive when i did it (2wd all the way), although some pretty severe corrogations were encounted as we got closer to Roper Bar, but the first half of that road through that section was good. it was the same on the run to Borroloola after Hells Gate for us also, the corrogations along that section were fairly ordinary at the time we went through. being we did it fairly late in the dry season, water and water crossings were no problems for us, but obviously that changes as the seasons change.
