buying a jeep cherokee

My father in law is looking at a 95 jeep cherokee with 130000km on it. Petrol automatic.
Would like some info from owners on common problems to look out for.
Have read varying reports about how good they are.
He won't be doing too extreame 4wding but wants to do a trip to
cape york and get to some of the
places they couldn't go in their camper van.
I have been to
cape york in a pajero this year with no major troubles but only saw 1 jeep of any kind.

It will suck fuel like their is no tomorrrow a friend had a wrangler with the same motor it used around 20-22L per 100km same as my old GQ.
If planning trip too the cape would look at alterante vechile or a diesel one if they made them back then
