Hi, I have just fitted new slotted rotors to my 100 series and new bearings and cannot get the outer circlip back onto the axle end - about 1 to 2mm short. Does anyone have any ideas????

You need to grab {can use multi grips} the splined bit of axle and pull it out. Also can screw a bolt{8mm bolt} into centre of the splined axle and pull it out.
thanks Graham

Andy,

As Graham said, screw in an 8mm bolt. But I also attach a pair of vice grips to head of the bolt, as you need 3 or 4 hands to do this job easily. If you haven't got an offsider then you can hold the v'grips between your knees, then fit the circlip. Sounds easy, but sometimes it's a real pain.

Andy,

The reason Tony suggests using a new circlip is if you've never fitted one before, or don't have an offsider, then at the crucial moment, the clip flies off, into the darkest corner of your shed, not be seen again, until long after you've fitted the new circlip.

There was a post on this forum maybe 6 months ago about a LC owner that 'lost' drive to his vehicle...what happened was he had had front end work done to his vehicle I/we assume the original circlips were refitted they 'fell off' the half shaft moved inwards ...away from the splines in the hub & drive was lost.... cost him an expensive tow/recovery to find out all the problem was a missing circlip.....NEVER REUSE circlips.split pins, lock washers or O rings

Fitting the circlip is easily a one person job. The circlip ends have been cut on an angle. When the circlip is put on with the correct tool the circlip will stay on the pliers due to the angle cut. The circlip pliers may be serrated or have a hole in the faces for the circlip to sit in and cause of this serration or hole you will not loose the circlip.
