We am looking to buy a annex for our new van. We are getting ready to travel for the next 2 years and I would appreciate any advice on what we should be mindful of when buying a annex. I noticed some manufactures use velcro and I am not sure if that is the way to go. Happy to be recommended to a manufacture if located in or 1-2 hour drive from the Sydney area.

Thanks

Buy an Aussie Traveller and you wont be dissapointed.
The method they use doesnt require you to drop the awning legs off the van which is dangerous as far as Im concerned.

Saw several awnings blown over vans in Geraldton. All had legs on ground, most were pegged down and the pegs just pulled out and wentwith them

The Aussie Travellers are the neatest I reckon and DONT get a Vinyl one Get a Canvas one as it breathes far better

They have agents all over and will also tell you how to measure up your self

Hi snoopyone,
Thank you very much for the feedback and I will certainly be checking out the Aussie Traveller annexes.
I wouldn't have thought about the legs being an issue so thanks for the heads up.
Agree with you about using canvas, last summer spent a few nights with friends in their van and they had a vinyl annex and it was mighty hot.

Cheers

I have had both an aussie traveller annex and a australia wide annex.I must say that the aussie wide is a better annex over the aussie traveler in my experiance. You could google australia wide and order on line and they send them to you any where in oz.They are made on the sunshine coast at marroccydore,I have no link to the company just a happy customer Yours PJK

Hi Peter

I will certainly visit the Australian Wide web page and compare the two. In your opinion why is the Australia Wide a better annex.

Appreciate the feedback.

Thanks

We had an annexe made from 90% shade cloth by by Julie at Camp Shades. The annexe was 1/2 price of canvas or vinyl but that was not the reason, the reason was it is a great annexe after we saw others with 90% shade cloth annexe. Is light, folds up easy, doesn't matter if has to be put away wet, is cool and now would never consider canvas or vinyl again. The annexe is full with skirt along van. The quality of construction from Camps Shades is 1st class all reinforced and sensational quality workladyship.

Hi P2D2,
I have just purchased an old Viscount AeroLite 1983/84 and it has an old
canvas Aussie traveller annex which i can see its a pretty heavy load to carry, the van is in very good condition, inside and out. The chassi is okay (no cracks) (german) but would like to lighten the load , where is Julie at Camp Shades?
Im in Gippsland Vic at present, and agree with you on 90% shade would be excellent.

Stan. Just click on P2D2's highlighted bit in blue. All will be revealed. It goes to Julie's website. Bob

Hi
Looking at the Julie at Camp Shades web page the shade cloth option would be light weight put it doesn't look that secure. I know a canvas annex is about 20 -25kg in weight a bit heavy put perhaps a little more secure.

thanks

Hi Daschin,
Will con sider what you have said, but think i'd rather be hit with a shade cloth
annex than a very heavy canvas...lol...but do understand what you are saying,
I'm more incline to look at the weight situation, as we wouldnt be using the canvas its too heavy for us to manage anyways...and only stopping for short periods on our tours.
Thanks again for your advice.

Daschin those shown on Julie's website are not 90% shade cloth. Go and look at Bunnings or the like at the quality 90% shade cloth.
Secure, is canvas or vinyl secure? At Caboolture 2 weeks there were 15 annexes slashed with a box cutter to see what they could steal inside. Some had nothing to steal and they could not see in. To look through 90% shade cloth you have to walk right up to it.

Hi. I have been looking at a full annex for a 22ft van as well. There is a guy in Wollongong who garrantees me that the weight of the walls (not canvas) will be no more than 12kg plus poles and ropes another 12kg. Still haven't decided yet but am leaning towards them as their price is pretty reasonable as well.
GM Coastwide Canvas
No connection to them etc. Cheers,Bob

If you are touring you wouldn't want a full size annexe. They are a pain in the buum to erect for short term. The Carefree type thing is a superior option.
