OK before I say what I did please realize this is a fudge only and not a practical solution which if you read further you will understand but it was fun.

It was wet so I thought I would have a play with my new IPAD.

I had been playing with some software to allow the IPAD to take over my PC and then wandered what OZI would look like on my IPAD.

So here is what I did

I installed a product called
Splashtop Streamer on my PC

I installed an app called
Splashtop Remote on my IPAD

These products can be found at http://www.splashtop.com/remote

The IPAD version costs about $6 the PC part is free

I then got the IPAD to take over the PC. I will not go in to all this but it is not to hard. Helps if you have a GMAIL logon but not essential. It uses the logon to help find the PC. There are also a few firewall issues which you may need to sort out.

I then fired up OZI on the PC (a netbook actually) and then played with it using my IPAD.

The IPAD was nice to use and the screen manipulation was as per normal IPAD stuff.

So if it is raining and you have an hour to spend have a go.

Not a practical solution but was fun.

Hopefully one day there will be an real OZI app for the IPAD.

Richard,

I did a very similar thing a few months ago with my iPad2 but instead of Splashtop Remote I used Team Viewer. It can be downloaded at no cost

Cheers

Craig,
Even better.

I did not hunt around much as I initially wanted it to take over IPHOTO on a MAC.

Not even sure why I wanted to do this now as I have ther AppleTV and can get it to display my IPHOTO pics on the TV while playing music from the MAC.

So don't even need the IPAD for this and no need for a take over. But why do it the simple way when you can find a much harder way to do things, when it is raining

:):):)

A native remote desktop solution is substantially quicker then the remote control solution as the remote desktop is built into Windows. You don't have to install anything on the server computer at all. You simply connect to it as if you were sitting at the keyboard. It gets trickier if the server is on another network. I connect my ipad to many computers in other suburbs daily as part of my work. Mike

Thanks for the replies.

It is an interesting option if, in my case just for fun,

There does seem to be a number of ways to do this , the one I used was fairly simple to set up and ran OK to a PC or a MAC from the IPAD<

OZI seemed to work OK.

It is still raining here so amy look at Team viewer as well unless soemthing else distracts me :))

Have a good one,

I had a play with teamviewer between IPAD and a MAC.

The instructions are a bit misleading in that is says there is no installation on the server.

You don't have to do an install as such but you do have to download the software or at least run from the server machine.

I suppose you could run it from a memory stick or even as an email attachment so may be right you don't have to install.

It works similar fashion as well, but being free it wins :).

Not worth doing an in depth investigation of the two as probably will not use it once it stops raining :)

Thanks again for comments above

No good for moving map but OK for searching looking at maps. Only a matter of time before Ozi will be available for Apple devices.

That is one reason I wanted to use the IPAD.

I have tried to get a road map of OZ on the IPAD to try and get a big picture.

I have found Australia map which will show you where you are and will have street level maps for main cities but good on big picture

Mudmap is good for big pic as well with free maps they give

Bitmap could be good as use Ozi maps but have not tried that yet
Free version of Memory map

Plus more I am sure
