Have had to secure and leave Disco on Sandy Blight track just over the border in W. Aust. due to collapse of front struts. Any ideas re. transport assistance for the Disco back to Alice?
Am in contact with my wife via sat phone and am travelling with a group of four other vehicles. She is writing this enquiry.

Thats a real bugger, Bob. Were you able to plant the vehicle out of site, or not
possible?. I would be concerned at leaving it easily found, may not be much to come back to. Is it possible to tow it with another vehicle, at least to somewhere more secure ? I hope it sorts out for you. cheers...oldbaz.

hi bob
wasnt it possible to take out the damaged trut assembly and put in a length of block type wood to hold up the
suspension and drive it out that way
did anyone really try to devise a remedy its a case of thinking outside the normal circle of thoughts
but it seems you have already left it and moved on so this advice is not much help now
cheers barry

I have just (1 month back) had to limp into
Kintore with a patched up trailer. The OIC at the police (Pete) and the shire works supervisor (Steve) were terrific when we discussed options for getting to Alice. Obviously the Disco has to get into
Kintore (closest point?), sorry I don't know what recovery facilities are there as I didn't need to get into that. A backload to Alice would be possibly 1 / week. I don't have any contact numbers for them on me, but they shouldn't be too hard (maybe on the
Treks part of this site?) Hope this helps.

If it was just the strut then it should still be able to be driven albiet on the bump stops. What sort of Disco are we talking about D1, D2, D3 or D4??

It must be a D3 or D4 as the earlier Discos had proper
suspension on them!

D3/D4 easily outperform vehicles with "proper suspension" on them - indeed when
rock crawl engaged the
suspension mimicks vehicles with "proper suspension".

Maybe the newer vehicles that "mimic" proper
suspension perform
well when everything works as the factory designed them to, but they cannot cope as
well as a vehicle without all the electtronic aids that relies on a
well designed
suspension system to start with.
All the electronic aids in the world are no good when a mouse can chew through one wire & render them inoperable & the car ends up on the back of a truck!

Outback Recovery is sorting the retrieval, thanks. Being only a mere female and the current messenger, all I know is that this '03 Disco has done a helluva lot of hard outback kms and has been virtually trouble free.
Just hope it's still intact when the truck arrives!

Good to hear, hopefully it is as intact when recovered as when he left it!

Thanks for the help guys. Used OB Recovery. An eighteen month old Bilstein shocker completely failed and managed to get itself sideways through the spring and impinge on the tyre. Car was not even towable. Thanks Bilstein.

Hmmm! I've heard of a few problems with Bilstein shockies (mainly being too stiff), this a new one for me, hope you took photos!
