Hi folks,

Planning to camp at Point Ann in Fitzgerald NP on the way to Esperance WA with our dirt-road pop-top van. Access looks ok as the DEC website says the road in is fine for 2WD but I seem to recall in the depths of my mind that caravans may be banned? Nothing on the DEC website though ...

Welcome comments on caravans being allowed.

TIA
Sass.

We were there in January of this year and I believe you would struggle to fit much in many of the sites. We were in a TVan and managed to find a spot.

It would really be dependent upon who is is there at the time. The sheltered sites will fill first.

Best thing is to ring the Rangers Office in Albany on 08 9842 4500 - if they don't have an answer they'll be able to provide you with the rangers contact on the western side of the NP.

Sass, we tried to get into Fitzgerald NP in April, but it was closed due to the problem with dieback and the risk of vehicles transferring the problem because there had been rain around there.
I would suggest you contact DEC and make sure the park is open first.
We didn't know about this problem with the parks closing at the first sign of rain and it cost us a lot of wasted time and Kms.

cheers

Thanks for the replies. I should of mentioned that we're not travelling until next year, though I'm in planning mode and figuring out some nice overnighters.

Hi Sass

You are correct; they don't allow caravans into the Fitzgerald River NP. It is lovely, and even driving past it you will see some of the flowering scrubland and the peaks which dominate the park. As said, campsite at Point Anne are mostly small and not suited to caravans.

There is private camping at the old Quaalup Homestead, although the roads were very corrugated when we went in. If you wanted to go to Point Anne (nice, especially in whale watching season) it is an easy drive from Quaalup.

Lots of nice camp grounds if you follow the coast road.

Be aware that unless you have an annual or holiday all parks pass, overnighting in a National Park can be quite expensive when you add the $11 entry fee to the camp fee.

Thanks Motherhen. Looks like we will give Point Ann a miss, or its a day trip. We will have a WA Parks Pass for the 3 months we're travelling that state and plan to stay in many NPs.
