I would like comments on a 2009 Pajero (DIESEL) for towing a caravan. Also any ideas on suitable weight distribution arms.

There are about 4 or 5 members of our Van Club using them for towing vans up to that sort of length, not sure about their weights. three or four are dual axle vans

Every one of them loves their Paj!

I reckon they are a brilliant tow wagon, the motor has so much pulling power, this is coming from a prado owner, the mitsi will outpull the prado hands down, My neighbour has the 3.2 DID in his exceed and is an absolute ripper for towing, comfort, and economy. I only go the the prado due to using it more for off road with its live rear axle where as the mitsi's are independent all round, which is some thing to be weary of as far as rear end dragging as it will cause the rear tyres to scrub out on the inside, but some airbags and correct set up will reduce this. .......................You wont be dissapointed in the mitsi, slightly noisier inside over the prado but minimal..............

The Prado has two fuel tanks. This becomes a factor when doing the big distances around outback Qld, Nt, SA and WA.
Maybe the new Paj has twin tanks now. Don't know.

Damo,
Can't comment on the Prado except to say that as long as the weight of the van is kept below 2500Kg it will do it easily.
But as for a WDH, then definitely yes.
It's also a requirement of Toyota that one be used.
Cheers, OJ

I was towing 2.5 tonne eirlier this year up the Hume around Gundagai with a Prado 4ltr petrol. It was really windy and hilly and the Prado was working hard at 80/90 kph. I could see these vans being towed far behind me. After about 15mins they caught up and when they went past it was two Pajeros towing TRI (3) axle vans. Could not believe the speed they were travelling at. Possibly new vans being delivered up to NSW somewhere and travelling at least 100kph

Hi Damo

Absolutely wrapt in our 2004 Pajero with that weight and 20ft van past three years with three interstate hauls. The turbo diesel seems to handle it with ease.

Enjoy

Hi Sharon - Thanks for the sentiment, however - regretfully, the humble abode is a pic taken at Bidgemia station, prior to the floods up in the Gascoyne earlier this year.

I was a wonderful place to stay, but judging from radio reports at the time, I suspect it sustained considerable damage, which is a terrible shame after the the McTaggart family did such a great job of creating that special place.

Cheers - Phil

Scrolling through threads whe yours caught my eye only because I was reading an old edition of overlander I found behind my fridge yesterday and was reading an artical about the V8td lancruiser troopy and it was metioned that whilst towing a heavy caravan they actually thought that the turbo diesle Pajero out performed the V8 Landcriuser. Thats just something that stuck in my mind because you can stick it to all those toymota drivers that keep telling you theres no substitute for cubic inches.
