Would anyone know whether the same standard steel wheel can be used on both a 2005 model diesel 4x4 SR KUN 26R and a 1997 model diesel 4x4 LN 106R. The possible need to share a wheel would be only for a temporary short period and not in extreme off road conditions.
Thanks Poitr

Poitr,

I went from a 93 diesel to a 2006 diesel SR Hilux and the rims are the same (205R16 tyre size and six stud holes in both). The SR5's had smaller wheels for some silly reason.

Why worry about the off road conditions? A good quality steel rim will take it. The main thing to check is that any old tyres will meet the speed rating of the newer vehicle. If you're unsure, get hold of one and test the fitting, especially clearance on the inside of the wheel.

Thanks Colin. I was aware they both take 205R16 tyres and that the stud pattern was the same, but I had a recollection of seeing something somewhere (unfortunately I can't remember where) that there may have been a difference in the "offset", whatever that is.

I think you'll find the offset is different. As I recall the old wheel will fit on the newer hilux but stick out further.
The new wheel may foul on the suspension on the older one.

Suggest you do a trial fit to be sure.

Bill,
Thanks, but I'm a bit too far away so the freight would be a killer, and by the look of the advice, I'm best to go for a 97 wheel which I could get away with on the 05 model if needed for a short distance. Appreciate your help. Poitr

The wheels are not the same. A 97 wheel on an 05 will widen the track and an 05 on a 97 will narrow it. I have 5 x 05 new steel wheels that came with new tyres on ebay. I knew they had a larger back spacing than my 03 and they would not be suitable but the price was so cheap it was worth buying them just for the tyres. I tried them on out of curiosity and found they just cleared everything at the front but they narrowed the track by 30mm.
