Sat Phone models

Can anyone tell me which of the Iridium sat phones work with Telstra Next G sim cards (on international roam). I believe some models do and some don't. Thanks

We've got the earlier Motorola 3500 and it works ok with a Telstra Next G POST PAID (on a plan) sim.
I'd imagine if the 3500 does then a 3505 would as well.

the 9555 does as well and the old 9500 does too but you need the credit card sized sim.

Easiest way to get one is buy a $2 starter pack and sellotape your sim card into it.
As said they only work with a Sim on a plan AND internationally roamed.
Calls are approx $3. 75 a minute BOTH IN AND OUT

If you Search "Satfones" or similar on here you will find enough reading to keep you going till Xmas

There has been 4 threads on Satfones THIS WEEK And dozens over the last 6 months

The just superseded model, Motorola 9505A, works well with a Next G SIM.

I've heard comments that the current 9555 doesn't but I guess that will be confirmed either way shortly.

If you choose a 9505A, and your current phone uses a micro-sim (like the Iphone does) then you will need an adapter. Plenty of them available on the net.

This is off subject a bit but might help, I found that with my telstra account with my Iridium all in coming calls were charged at international Rates & now that I,m with pivotel & have a standard mobile number all in coming calls within aust are charged at a mobile rates which are Heaps cheaper. Pivotel is a little dearer ($0.05c) per 30 seconds
I only have a basic account as its only used in emergence's other than the basic $10 worth of free calls per month with its monthly charge (No contract) & can go on stand by for up to 3 months
