Satelite Phone

I have a iridium 9555 with pivotel & friend's are looking at new Thurata SG2520 dual mode phone &, I was wondering how good is it & does any body have one Or does it have all the same problems as many other sat phones just no reception when you need it, something I have never had with the iridium it has always got out no matter where I have been.

I would suggest they buy a 9555 like you have if you are happy with it.
At least you know what youve got then.

Search satfones on here Threads at least twice a week about them

I have the Iridium 9505. The Iridium system has multiple low earth orbit satellites which pretty much guarantees reception whereas the others have geostationary satellites which are a long way out and you may have difficulty hooking into what may be a solitary satellite possibly low on the horizon. Iridium for me!

Geostationary satellites are much more stable then low earth orbit satellites.

Most satellites used for high demand commercial applications are geostationary.

We have a Optus Mobilsat phone that uses the B2 Optus geostationary satellite and have just changed over to Iridium.... the Optus satellite service leaves it for dead for stability.

Plus the Optus signal strength was greater then Iridium, the Iridium drops calls.

But the Iridium has more features and is portable.

Have 3 iridiums as well. Never had any issues. had 2 for about 7 years and the other is a work one. Iridium definately has the more reliable coverage. Most people up our way(remote NT) USE iridium..We need the reliability.
cheers
