Hi, We have been worried about the weather that never seems to let up this year. Our options are confined to June 24 until July 9 with school holidays.
Our initial plan was for our second trip west across the Simpson (our first trip was amazing) however that is now out. Second idea was for a trip out around Innaminka and down to the
gammon ranges however, Innaminka still looks pretty wet and options limited.
Third idea was from
Bourke south west on the
Darling River Run however, I understand that there are problems there also.
Our next option is to drive to
Coober Pedy (from
Brisbane), hook up with the
Anne Beadell Highway, turn south at Vokes
Hill Corner, down to the Bight and then on to
Adelaide where we will leave the vehicles and fly
home.
Does anyone have some experience/advice with this route and/or any other suggestions.
Thanks,
Peter

Hi Peter
Do not give option 2 the flick just yet, as we are doing a similar route in early August. Sure there is a lot of water over the causeway, but from what I am hearing, the country up that way has never looked so good and there is still lots to see up there. Then through to the Flinders and you will have a very hard trip to beat.
Yes we have driven the Anne Beadell, but the Flinders are one location that we go back to time after time and never tire of the scenery, in fact you could just spend your 2 weeks in the Flinders, and still you would only have scratched the surface of what there is to see and do there.
It is your call, but where ever do travel, have a great trip.
Cheers
Stephen

Thanks Stephen.
I notice that you would be starting at the
Clare. We had been thinking about having a couple of days there to finish our trip before heading on to
Adelaide!! We had a nice time in the Barossa on our last trip.
We are now waiting to see what happens with this rain front coming through before we make our final assessment. Just wanting to have alll our options on the table!!
Cheers,
Peter

Hi Peter
I'm with Steve on this one, wait a bit longer to see what is open around
Innamincka and you can't find much better than the Flinders. If you decide to do the third option, be warned the corrugations on the Anne Beadell are horrendous, you may even regret doing it after a couple of days of hellish vibrations. Also you need permits for those roads so you should be organising asap, maybe even too late to get them finalised by now. Haven't done the Vokes
Hill road (
Dam how did I miss that one?) So can't comment.
