Been through it a few times when travelling between
Mudgee and Merriwa via Wollar.
80-100km/hr is possible, with caution on corners in a 4WD. Never attempted any firetrails etc, just the through road. Relatively good roads on
sandstone base

Fred is right. Where are you coming from?
I came in via Meerriwa, drove through the NP, out the other side, did a right hand turn and drove back into it again to reach the camping areas.
The road into and through the NP and camping areas is good .. corrugations in parts but do-able if you just take it easy. There are a couple of steep parts but easy to get over.
The first
camp ground looked nice, but we chose to go on the '4WD only' road to the other
campground, which had a view of the river. My own thoughts afterwards was that the first
camp area was nicer. The only reason that the road is signposted '4WD Only' is, as far as I could see, because it has a couple of sizeable dips which might trap a caravan. We towed a Tvan in with no dramas at all.

Hi Max.
I had meant to add that my wife and I were there for a couple of days 2 weeks ago, so the advice is pretty current.

Have been in there with a
Kimberley Karavan but you would be asking for trouble dragging an on-road caravan there. You need higher clearance with dips and the like.
