ok it borders the "off topic" rule but it does it to tourists when they pull up here ........
Hi all, i have a little black n white mudlark that has fallen in love with it's self, well the one she see's in my car mirrors, it is getting to be a right pain in the butt as i can wash the car and 3 days time the mirrors will covered in greasey marks, poo all over them and on the roof, if i forget and leave a window down she sits on the window glass and poos down the door trims and she even has dropped a couple on the dash..
I have had reps and contractors stay overnight and it is all over their mirrors also incluiding tourists cars that pull up out the front ............
Now i like liddle birdys and stuff like that so short of "death" what can i do...
Any ideas folks ?????? i havd placed cardboard boxes over the mirrors so it sat on the bonnet and walked up and down the windscreen .........
ggggrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Cheers
Joe

You can buy big replica birds of prey like owls and hawks and sit them on the car somewhere. You have to move them around every day or the little birds wise up to the hoax. Cheers Mike

Hi Joe. I wonder how another mirror would go hanging in a tree or similar in the vicinity. It may stay at that one instead if it is permanent. Cheers,Bob

Joe
We have the same problem down here in Vic with wrens and swallows, mainly over the summer months. My daughter also has them doing the same thing with the house windows under their rear deck. They solved the problem by hanging a CD disc on a piece of string so that it spins with breeze .Maybe you could hang a few off some trees and see what happens.

Hi Joe,
What you are seeing is a territorial defense thing as the bird has not seen the one in the mirror before and therefore assumes it is a stranger invading its territory.
Every attack on this intruder is met with an equal attack of equal force and so this could and usually does go on for weeks. I get the same thing with the Pee Wees here on the Mid North Coast NSW.

I got the wife to make a couple of socks out of scrap material to put over the mirrors, end of the game. They all went about there business as normal and I did not have to clean up after them.

They are persistent though aren't they.

Cheers, Bruce.

Us too, but our 'bovver-bird' is just small enough to be cute - the mudlark could do damage for sure. While having a picnic on the south coast of Victoria near Portland, this little fella was 'beating up all the birds in our mirror', pretty much until we left.
