I have a 2.8 turbo Diesel Patrol and fitted a 3 inch exhaust system to it. It has made a huge difference to the power, so much so that the chip that I had planned to install will not be done. given the age of the patrol, I am concerned that a chip may create too many problems, as I have heard the heat can be an issue? Not sure it this is the case though

hey Shelly,
I have just recently got rid of my 2.8 patrol last November. It had a chip in it, and my next step was to fit a 3" exhaust until...I heard about Brunswick Diesels. I did a whole 180 on my power upgrade and sold the old girl and bought an '06 patrol already converted with a 6.5 L V8 Diesel. I am very happy with my decision, but have always wondered how the old girl would have gone with a 3" exhaust.
I see you tow a caravan around with the 2.8. I used to tow a 5 M boat and a CYT camper around and found that it would get hot up the ranges and had to work through the gears through sand etc.

Generally a free-er flowing exhaust will have lower EGTs so the heat is less of a problem.
